A word about Amborea by Henri Baviera:

This particular painting was not started to be what it became.

It gradually imposed itself during work, and, at this present moment, seems to me to be remarkable.

But to explain it is a bit like wanting to explain existence, it has a reality and yet little convincing to clarify its mysteries.

Painting is revealed only by the induction of impressions and emotions present in the mind before and during work. I am not a master of them rationally.

What are they? As with many, they are the feeling of the living world, which shows a period of change, not only in societies but in its current point of evolution, telluric, cosmic, organic and physiological.

We can see the presence of the four elements in a free evocation of the organic living world, but without this being the subject, this is only a starting point.

I tend in my painting to give a reflection of these phenomena, nonverbal and more sensitively condensed, in relation to our humanity.

It cannot, therefore, be a work of rationality, because my listening to the sounds of the world and its history, the questions it raises in me, is enough to feed my imagination and my emotions.

This is also why an explanatory discourse would be artificial for me and can veil a direct, truer and more emotional perception of the work.

What my work offers is a human reaction to express to my fellow men the feeling mentioned above. My wish is that the amateur or the spectator finds in this composition the pictorial and poetic attraction, which will make him travel and share a similar emotion.

Nicolae Andrei Ene is an American painter born in Bucharest, Romania in 1977. As a displaced refugee of an Eastern Bloc country, he received a worldly education in art and culture in three continents before earning his degree from Parsons The New School in New York. Through his travels, Ene was able to absorb hundreds of years of culture from Europe and North Africa in a matter of years - an experience that left an indelible mark on his artistic spirit. His detailed creations allow him to develop his private world of introspection, presenting on an amalgamation of his love for art, philosophy, spirituality, science, and World culture.

For Ene, painting is an epistemic journey, merely a method of meditative focus. Interested in the interrelations that construct the fundamentals of our complex reality, he values the pervasive entanglement of thoughts produced by the action of painting, where one layer of experiences influences the next.

Respecting space, color, and value, Ene creates a series of progressive layers of finely tuned balances that aims to understand the notions concerning the complex interplay of our presence as beings of thought in a multidimensional reality. To render such a unique artistic vision, he uses a technical pen and employs ink on a smooth wood panel surface.

His choice of a wooden panel as support mimics the 15th-century artists who appreciated to work on hard or resinous wood, making their work infinitely more durable while adding on an object-like quality to the paintings. In Ene’s work, elements of representation are directly dependent on the initial application of paint, which requires a continuous cycle of layering and balancing. The last act of layering serves as an anchor to the intricate boundaries that have emerged as a result of the initial point layering process. Ene’s artistic vision enables him to understand the human condition by actively focusing on it, and eventually extracting its simplicity through its inherent complexity.

Intuitive in nature, his paintings emerge from a diligent, creative process born from the notion of an enveloping presence. While challenging the notion of the human construct of boundaries and limitations, Ene is equally interested in the permeability of these boundaries, which is evident in his application of ink. As some colors stay locked in cells bordered by black ink lines, some tend to fester up and open up to the rest of the composition.

Nicolae A. Ene lives and works in new Jersey.
